I love this photo because it tells such a family story. I don’t remember my grandfather looking this young, but of course I wasn’t to be born for another 10 years. This picture is of Robert E. Whelan, my grandfather. Both him and my dad, Robert M. Whelan, served in WWII. I don’t think a lot of families can say that, so it is special to me.
